Low Pressure In Bay Of Bengal Not To Affect Odisha, Cold Wave To Return In 24 Hours: IMD

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday said a low-pressure formation in Bay of Bengal will have no effect on Odisha.

The IMD also said the state will experience the onset of a cold wave in the next 24 hours.

“Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over the equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining south-east Bay of Bengal, a low-pressure area has formed over the same area and the adjoining central parts of South Bay of Bengal,” the IMD said in a bulletin.

“It is likely to concentrate into a depression over the south-west Bay of Bengal during next 48 hours and intensify further during subsequent 48 hours and then move west¬northwestwards towards Sri Lanka and South Tamil Nadu coast and reach near Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coast on November 26,” it added.

The bulletin further said that though the system will have no effect on Odisha, there will be thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places over the districts of Cuttack, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput, Ganjam, Nabarangpur and Jajpur on November 21.

The duty officer of the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, Uma Shankar Das, said the night temperature will gradually fall from November 22 with dense fog at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Kalahandi, Balangir, Jajpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal and Keonjhar.

Das predicted similar weather condition in Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Cuttack and Jajpur on November 23.

He further said that the state will experience intense cold wave by November 26 as the nigh temperature will fall by 3-5°C.
