Low Pressure In Next 24 Hours, IMD Issues Orange Warning For 15 Odisha Districts

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued heavy to very heavy rainfall warning for 15 districts of Odisha in view of the likely formation of low pressure over the north Bay of Bengal in the next 24 hours.

In a mid-day bulletin, the IMD said that while the low pressure over the north-east Madhya Pradesh and neighbourhood has become less marked, a cyclonic circulation has formed over the north-east Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood which is most likely to turn into a low pressure over the north Bay of Bengal around by Wednesday and gradually move towards the west as a well-marked low pressure during the subsequent 24 hours.

Under its influence, there will be heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places in north coastal, north interior and the interior pockets from the evening of August 18 and continue for six days till August 22.

August 18
(Yellow warning)
Heavy rainfall at one or two places in Bargarh, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Angul, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Kendrapada.

August 19
(Orange warning)
Heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places in Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sundargarh, Cuttack, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Balangir and Sonepur.

Extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places in Angul, Deogarh and Sambalpur.

Heavy rainfall at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Jagatsinghpur, Boudh, Kalahandi and Koraput.

August 20
(Orange warning)
Heavy to very heavy rainfall in Bargarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Keonjhar and Deogarh.

(Yellow warning)
Heavy rainfall at one or two places in Angul, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Balangir and Nuapada.

August 22
(Yellow warning)
Heavy rainfall at one or two places in Keonjhar, Angul, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Balasore and Bhadrak.

Due to inclement weather, fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea on August 19 and 20 as squally weather with surface wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph over the North Bay of Bengal and along and off the Odisha coast will make the sea condition very rough.
