Bhubaneswar: A low pressure area on the central Odisha coast on August 7, SOA’s Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC) in Bhubaneswar said on Saturday.
A cyclonic circulation, likely to form over the Bay of Bengal along Odisha coast on August 4 or 5, will develop into low pressure area after 2-3 days, a CEC bulletin said. Numerical models indicate that the system might gradually intensify into a deep depression on August 9.
On the impact of the system, very heavy rainfall is likely to occur in the coastal and southern districts between August 7 and 9 after which very heavy rainfall may take place in the interior and north Odisha districts, it said.
The existing dry spell is likely to continue upto August 3 to be followed by sporadic thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and rain. However, light to moderate rain will commence from August 3, the bulletin said.
Since rainfall intensity is generally very high after dry spell during the monsoon, the farmers can plan for transplantation of paddy during the rain this time, it added.
