Bhubaneswar: A low pressure area is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal around October 13, raising the likelihood of rain in Odisha during Durga Puja festival, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Friday.
A cyclonic circulation is active over the Gulf of Thailand and its neighbourhood, extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level. The system is likely to enter the Andaman Sea by October 11. Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over the southeast Bay of Bengal around October 13, it said.
The weather forecast comes ahead of Durga Puja, which begins in Odisha on October 16. If the system strengthens and moves closer to the Odisha coast, it could affect weather conditions during the festive period. However, the possible movement of the system and its impact on Odisha will become clear at a later stage.
Meanwhile, the withdrawal process of the southwest monsoon from Odisha is underway. The monsoon has started retreating from some parts of Baragada, Jharsuguda and Sundaragada districts. The monsoon will withdraw from some more parts of eastern India in the next 3 to 4 days.
The southwest monsoon is likely to withdraw completely from the entire country between October 15 and 21, the IMD said.

Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind is likely to occur in the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj during the next 24 hours.
