Low Pressure Likely Over Bay In 48 Hours; Squally Weather With Rain In Odisha Till May 14



Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area is likely to form over southwest Bay of Bengal during the next 48 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Sunday.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into some parts of southwest Bay of Bengal, adjoining parts of southeast Bay of Bengal on May 10-11, most parts of southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining parts of southeast Bay of Bengal from May 12-15 and along and off Tamil Nadu Coast on May 13-14.

According to wether experts, this system is unlikely to have any significant impact in South India as it is expected to move northeastwards towards Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Myanmar during the next week. Change of  cyclone formation is also low. However, mild possibilities of depression or further intensification can’t be ruled out.

Forecast for Odisha

The MeT office has also forecast scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning gusty/squally winds (speed reaching 40-60 kmph) in Odisha between May 10 and May 14 with a trough, running from northeast Bihar to central parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh across Jharkhand, Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

The day temperature is expected to rise by 2-4°C across the state after 2-3 days.

Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (40-50 kmph) is likely in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Balasore and Bhadrak.

Similar weather conditions with wind speed of 30-40 kmph may also prevail in Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati districts.

May 11

Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (40-50 kmph) is likely in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in the districts of Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar.

Similar weather conditions with wind speed of 30-40 kmph may also prevail in Rayagada, Koraput, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati

Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (40-50 kmph) is likely in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Sundargarh.

May 13

Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (40-50 kmph) is likely in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh and Sambalpur.

May 14

Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (40-50 kmph) is likely in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundergarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri.

While there is no warning thereafter, some parts of south and coast Odisha may continue to experience rain during the subsequent 2 days.
