Low Pressure Off Odisha Coast To Trigger Heavy Rain In Next 24 Hours

Bhubaneswar: Most parts of Odisha will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall as low-pressure is most likely to form over north Bay of Bengal off the state’s coast in the next 24 hours, said India Meteorological Department (IMD) in a release on Saturday.

“A low-pressure area is very likely to form over north Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood during the next 24 hours, which is likely to become more marked and concentrate into a depression during the subsequent 48 hours. Under its influence, enhanced rainfall activity is very likely to occur over the districts of Odisha,” the release added.

In view of the heavy rainfall, the IMD had issued yellow and orange warnings for four days from June 29 till July 2.

Yellow warning
According to IMD, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Jajpur and Cuttack on June 29, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Kandhamal, Malkangiri and all the coastal districts on June 30, Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Jajpur and Sundargarh and at one or two places over the remaining districts on July 1, and Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Nawarangpur and Koraput on June 2.

Orange warning
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal and Kendrapada on June 30 and Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Sonepur and Boudh on July 1.

Keeping the inclement weather in view, fishermen are advised not to venture along and off the Odisha coast and north Bay of Bengal between June 30 and July 2. Whoever has gone for deep sea fishing is advised to return to the coast by Saturday night as squally weather with gusty wind speed reaching 40 to 50 kmph is likely to prevail over north Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Central Bay, making the sea condition very rough.
