Bhubaneswar: Even as the winter chill has intensified in Odisha, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday forecast formation of a low-pressure area over Southeast Bay of Bengal and its neighbourhood around November 16.
“A cyclonic circulation lies over south Andaman Sea and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the Southeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood around November 16,” it said.
The system is likely to move west-northwestwards and gradually concentrate into a depression over central parts of the South Bay of Bengal around November 18. Widespread rainfall with heavy falls is very likely in Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the south Andaman Sea and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal on November 16 and 17 and along and off Tamil Nadu-Puducherry Coasts on November 20 and 21.

According to the MeT office, dry weather will prevail across Odisha during the next five days with shallow to moderate fog at some places till 8.30 am on November 17. One or two places over the districts of Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri are likely to experience fog during the next 48 hours.
The minimum temperature is likely to remain 2 to 4 degree Celsius below normal at many places during the next 4 to 5 days, it said, adding that there will be little change thereafter.
Notably, 21 places recorded a minimum temperature of 15 degree celsius and below during the last 24 hours. The mercury plummeted below 10 degree Celsius at G Udayagiri and Similiguda. The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 16 degree Celsius and 16.4 degree Celsius respectively.
