Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday said that the formation of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal has been delayed by two days. Despite this delay, most parts of Odisha will experience heavy rainfall from this afternoon and it will continue till July 23.
In a mid-day bulletin on Monday, the IMD said that the formation of the low-pressure, which was expected to form over the north-west Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood around July 21, has been delayed by two days due to the weakening of the cyclonic circulation over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and neighbourhood.
“The presence of an eastwest shear zone will make the condition favourable for formation of the low-pressure. As a shear zone is filled by the opposing winds and represents the level in the atmosphere where the monsoon is most active, it sets up the platform for rain-bearing systems (low-pressure areas/depressions). Going by the modular study, it is expected that heavy rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall will begin in Odisha from Monday afternoon and continue till the next five days up to July 23. There will be no change in the weather condition till July 25,” it added.
In view of the heavy rainfall, IMD has issued yellow warning for the following districts:
