Low Pressure Over Bay In 48 Hours; IMD Issues Orange & Yellow Warnings For Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorm activity till August 29, owing to cyclonic circulation over northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha-West Bengal coasts which is expected to intensify into a low-pressure area over the same region during the next 48 hours.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange warning for districts of Gajapati, Rayagada, Nayagarh and Kandhamal on August 26-27. Squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph may also prevail along & off Odisha coasts and over North Bay of Bengal from August 26-29.

According to the weather agency, the districts of Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Rayagada, Gajapati and Koraput may experience heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph  on August 25. Thunderstorm/lightning along with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur and Malkangiri.

On August 26, heavy to very heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur in Gajapati and Rayagada districts. Heavy rain along with thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely at one or two places in Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Nayagarh and Malkangiri. There is also a warning of thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph for one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada and Balangir.

On August 27, heavy to very heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur in Nayagarh and Kandhamal districts. Heavy rain along with thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely at one or two places in Khurda, Puri, Cuttack, Boudh, Koraput and Malkangiri.

There is also a warning of thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph for one or two places in Balasore, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Ganjam, Gajapati,Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj,Sonepur, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Rayagada.

Heavy rain may continue during the subsequent two days.

On August 28, heavy rain along with thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Balangir, Kalahandi, and Sundargarh. Thunderstorm/lightning along with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely in Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri districts.

On August 29, heavy rain along with thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may continue at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Sundargarh. There is also a warning of thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph for one or two places in Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri.

While there is no weather warning thereafter, light to moderate rain may continue in several places in the state during the subsequent 5 days, it added.
