Low Pressure Over Bay Likely Tomorrow; Rain Forecast For Odisha, Night Temp To Rise Further

Bhubaneswar: Dense fog occurred at one or two places in Sundargarh and shallow to moderate fog in Kalahandi and Kandhaml districts in Odisha in the last 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Friday.

It has also warned of shallow to moderate fog at one or two places in these three districts for 2 more days.

Odisha also experience further rise in the night temperature with G Udayagiri being the coldest in the state at 8°C. The hill station in Kandhamal district had recorded 7.4°C on Thursday, over a degree more than the previous day of 6.2°C, and 6.6°C on Tuesday.

Semiliguda in Koraput was close second at 8.7°C followed by Phubani at 10°C and Daringbadi and Koraput at 11°C each. The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 17°C, a rise of 0.3°C, and 16.8°C respectively.

According the IMD, a low-pressure area is also likely form over southeast Bay of Bengal around November 23. “Thereafter, it is likely to continue to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over central parts of south Bay of Bengal during the subsequent 2 days.”

It further stated that various models are indicating formation of low-pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal on November 23. “However, there is large variation among various models with respect to intensification of the system. GFS group of models are indicating formation of depression/deep depression around November 24 over southeast Bay of Bengal. NCUM is indicating formation of depression around November 26 off Sri Lanka coast and ECMWF is not indicating any significant intensification of this system (only up to low-pressure area stage),” it said.

Under its influence, light to moderate rain/thundershower may occur at one or two places in Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur and Puri districts on November 27 and Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Koraput and Malkangiri on November 28. While there will be no large change in the night temperature across the state during next 4 days, it will rise by 2-3°C during the subsequent one day, it added.
