Low Pressure Over Bay Of Bengal To Trigger Heavy Rainfall In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday forecast heavy rainfall in Odisha under the influence of a low-pressure over the north Bay of Bengal, which is likely to form in the next 48 hours.

The IMD in a mid-day bulletin said that a monsoon from the north-central direction is moving eastward to the north Bay of Bengal is most likely to merge with the low-pressure area in the next 24 hours by August 3. The merger of the monsoon trough will further intensify the low pressure in the subsequent 24 hours on August 4. Under its influence, there will be heavy rainfall at some places with extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places across the state, which will continue till August 6.

In view of the heavy rainfall, IMD has issued yellow warning for the following districts.

June 2
Heavy rainfall at one or two places in Koraput, Malkangiri, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda,  Bargarh, Deogarh, Boudh, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Jagatsinghpur.

Thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places in Nuapada, Balangir, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Boudh, Sundargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Cuttack and Khurda.

June 3
Heavy rainfall at one or two places in Malkangiri, Kalahandi, Boudh, Balangir Sambalpur, Sonepur, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Angul and Sundargarh.

June 4
Heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places in Dhenkanal, Jajpur and Kalahandi.

Heavy at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Keonjhar, Boudh, Angul, Nuapada and Balangir.

June 5
Heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places in Sambalpur, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh and Keonjhar.

Heavy rainfall at one or two places in Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul and Sonepur.

June 6
Heavy rainfall at one or two places in Bargarh, Sundargarh and Deogarh.

The IMD has also advised the fishermen not to venture into the deep sea from August 4 to 6 as the surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph over the west-central and adjoining north Bay of Bengal will make the sea condition very rough.
