Bhubaneswar: With a low-pressure area over southwest Bay of Bengal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday issued yellow warning for eight places in Odisha till 2.15 pm.
Light to moderate rain may occur in some parts of Keonjhar, Deogarh, Dhankanal, Angul, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack and Nayagarh in 3 hours.
On Saturday, the weather agency had forecast light rain at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Balangir, Sonepur, and Boudh on December 8 and Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Cuttack and Khurda on December 9.
Meanwhile, the low-pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal & adjoining east Equatorial Indian Ocean is expected to move west-northwestwards and become more marked during next 24 hours. It is very likely to continue to move west-northwestwards thereafter and reach over southwest Bay of Bengal off Sri-Lanka- Tamil Nadu coasts around December 11.
Under its influence, light to moderate rainfall is likely at many places with heavy rainfall at isolated places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal during December 10-14 with very heavy rainfall at isolated places in coastal Tamil Nadu on December 12. Light to moderate rainfall may occur at many places with heavy rainfall at isolated places in coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam on December 11-12. Light to moderate rainfall may also occur at many places with heavy rainfall at isolated places in Kerala & Mahe during December 11-14.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into southeast Bay of Bengal during December 8-11; southwest Bay of Bengal during December 9-12 and westcentral Bay of Bengal on December 11-12.
