Low Pressure Over BoB To Intensify Into Depression; Extremely Heavy Rainfall Ahead For Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The low-pressure system over the eastcentral Bay of Bengal (BoB) and neighbourhood is likely to concentrate into a depression during next the 12 hours and move westnorthwestwards towards Odisha coast during the next 48 hours, the India Meteorological Department informed on Friday evening.

The low-pressure area has become well-marked and lies over eastcentral and adjoining northeast Bay of Bengal, it added.

Under its influence, there will be fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall activity with isolated heavy falls from September 25 and 28. Also widespread light to moderate rainfall activity with scattered heavy to very heavy (12-20 cm) with isolated extremely heavy falls (>20 cm) is very likely on September 26 and 27 in some districts of Odisha, the IMD said in its special bulletin.

“It may cause temporary waterlogging in some places of low lying areas in some districts for which drainage of excess water may be required from agriculture field. Also temporarily waterlogging and traffic disruption may occur in low-lying areas of some cities in the districts due to heavy rainfall activity,” it added.
