Bhubaneswar: Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to lash several parts of Odisha under the influence of the low-pressure area has formed over the Bay of Bengal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday.
The low-pressure area, formed on Friday, is likely to move northwestwards and under its influence, Odisha may continue to experience heavy to very heavy rain till June 30.
The Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has issued yellow warning of heavy to very heavy rain in at least nine districts of Odisha in next 24 hours.
The weather agency said heavy to very heavy rain may occur at one or two places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Sundargarh districts on Saturday. Similarly, heavy rain is also likely in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Deogarh, Angul and Dhenkanal.
Heavy rainfall may continue at one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh and Keonjhar districts during the subsequent 24 hours.
The IMD has warned of squally weather with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40 to 50 kmph over northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast till June 30. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea off Odisha coast and northwest Bay of Bengal during this period.
While there are no further weather warnings, light to moderate rain may occur at several places in the state till July 4, it added.
