Bhubaneswar: With a low pressure all set to form over the Bay of Bengal in the next 72 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday sounded heavy to very heavy rainfall warning for 14 districts of Odisha.
In a mid-day bulletin, the IMD said that a cyclonic circulation formed over the north coastal Andhra Pradesh and neighbourhood will concentrate into a low-pressure area over the north-east Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood on September 20. Under its influence, the rainfall activity will begin in Odisha from September 18 with heavy rainfall at one or two places with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places in the south coastal, south and interior Odisha. Apart from this, moderate rainfall, thunderstorm and lightning will continue in the remaining parts of the state.
The rainfall will continue for five days till September 22, the weatherman said.
Taking note of the inclement weather, the IMD has advised the fishermen not to venture into deep sea in north-east Bay of Bengal and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal from September 20 and along and off Odisha coast and North Bay Of Bengal and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal on September 21 and 22. Whoever is in the deep sea are advised to return to the coast by September 20.
In view of the heavy rainfall, the IMD has issued yellow and orange warning for the following districts.
September 18

Thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Balangir, Nuapada, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.
September 19
(Yellow warning)
Thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places in Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Boudh, Nayagarh, Khurda, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Ganjam.
September 20
(Yellow warning)
Heavy rainfall at one or two places in Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Koraput and Rayagada.
Thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Kandhamal, Dhenkanal and Kalahandi.
September 21
(Orange warning)
Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Ganjam and Puri.
(Yellow warning)
Heavy rainfall at one or two places in Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Cuttack and Khurda.
September 22

Heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places in Sonepur, Sambalpur, Angul, Deogarh, Bargarh, Boudh, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Kalahandi.
