Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area is likely to form over northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal around August 7, the India Meteorological Department (IMD)’s regional centre informed on Thursday.
“Under influence of gradual strengthening of monsoon flow and the anticipated low-pressure area, rainfall activity is very likely to increase gradually from August 5. Widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely between August 6 and August 10 in Odisha,” it said.
The IMD has issued a yellow warning for heavy rainfall in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Gajapati, and Ganjam districts on August 5. The same warning has been issued for Malkangiri, Koraput, Nawarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Puri, Boudh, Angul, Khurda, Nayagarh, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, and Bhadrak districts on August 6.
Similarly, the Met office has sounded an orange warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Nuapada, Kalahandi, Balangir, Bargarh, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Puri, and Jagatsinghpur on August 7. Heavy rainfall is also likely to occur in Nuapada, Kalahandi, Balangir, Bargarh, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Puri, and Jagatsinghpur districts during this period.
Orange warning continues for August 8 with heavy to very heavy rainfall likely to pound Puri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Khordha Malkangiri, and Koraput. Some places in Nayagarh, Cuttack, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Dhenkanal,
Kandhamal, Boudh, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Nawarangpur, Sonepur, Bargarh, and Angul districts are likely to experience heavy rainfall.
The fishermen have been advised not to venture into deep sea areas of the west-central Bay of Bengal from August 7 till further notice.
