Bhubaneswar: With a low-pressure shaping up over the Bay, many parts of Odisha are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rain over the next five days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday.
Under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over central parts of Bay of Bengal, a low-pressure area is likely to form over west-central & adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal on Wednesday. The system is likely to become more marked during subsequent 48 hours, it said.
Rainfall and thunderstorm activity is likely to intensify in several areas of the state under its influence. The weather agency has issued orange and yellow warning for different areas.
In the next 24 hours, heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, and Nabarangpur. The IMD has issued a yellow warning for these districts.
Similarly, thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj,Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and Rayagada
On August 13-14, orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph was issued for some places over the districts of Koraput, and Malkangiri.
Likewise, yellow warning about heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph was issued for some places of Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Gajapati, Balangir, and Nuapada.

Yellow warning has been issued for Gajapati, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur districts.
As squally weather is likely to prevail along the coast and sea condition may remain rough, fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea along and off Odisha coasts, West Central Bay and North Bay of Bengal from August 13 to 16.
