Low Pressure To Trigger Heavy Rainfall In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Heavy rainfall will pound most parts of Odisha in the next 24 hours under the influence of a low pressure, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday.

According to the latest release of the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, the cyclonic circulation, formed over the north-west Bay of Bengal on Friday, has concentrated into a low pressure by Saturday afternoon.

Under its influence, rain would lash western, interior and coastal districts from Saturday evening.

The release further said that there will be extremely heavy rainfall in the eight districts of Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Balangir, Jharsuguda, Baragarh, Keonjhar in the next 24 hours, and at one or two places in Puri, Ganjam, Khurda, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Kalahandi, Boudh, Sonepur, Sundargarh district in the next 48 hours.

The Met office has also predicted heavy rainfall in the upper catchments of Mahanadi, Brahmani and Baitarani rivers during the period.

Due to the inclement weather, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along and off Odisha coast and north-west Bay of Bengal and those, who have gone for deep sea fishing have been asked to return to the coast by Saturday night.
