Bhubaneswar: With a low-pressure area prevailing over the Bay of Bengal, several parts of Odisha were battered by heavy to very heavy rainfall.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Friday that very heavy rainfall was recorded at six stations and heavy rainfall at 23 stations across the state.
The highest rainfall of 159 mm was recorded at Golamunda in Kalahandi district, followed by 140.0 mm at Madanpur-Rampur, 139.8 mm at Bhawanipatna and 136.8 mm at Junagarh, all in the same district. Malkanagiri in Malkangiri district received 126.6 mm, while Th. Rampur in Kalahandi recorded 117.0 mm.
IMD data showed that Kalahandi received maximum rainfall with multiple stations in the district witnessing very heavy downpours.
Significant rainfall was also reported from other places, including 110.0 mm at Mathili in Malkangiri, 109.4 mm at Berhampur in Ganjam, 102.0 mm at Jaleswar in Baleshwar and 100.0 mm at Patamundai in Kendrapada.
Heavy rainfall ranging between 65 mm and 98 mm was recorded at several stations in Malkangiri, Kandhamal, Balangir, Ganjam, Jharsuguda, Rayagada, Sambalpur, Nabarangapur, Nuapada and Baleshwar districts.
Meanwhile, the IMD said that squally winds speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely to prevail over North Bay of Bengal & Central Bay of Bengal; along and off Bangladesh-West Bengal-Odisha-North Andhra Pradesh coasts during next 48 hours.
Similarly, rough to very rough Sea conditions are likely to prevail over North Bay of Bengal & Central Bay of Bengal during next 48 hours.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture over North Bay of Bengal & Central Bay of Bengal; along and off Bangladesh-West Bengal-Odisha-North Andhra Pradesh coasts during next 48 hours.
