Balasore: Three persons sustained burn injuries as a sweet shop caught fire due to gas leak from an LPG cylinder in Odisha’s Balasore district on Sunday.
According to sources, two employees of Gajanan Sweets shop at Nilagairi in the district including its owner Jadunath Sahu were preparing sweets in the kitchen around noon. Suddenly a part of the kitchen’s thatched roof caught fire following a leak from the LPG cylinder.
Even as Sahu and the workers tried to retrieve the items and go out, the fire engulfed the kitchen and they were trapped. Somehow they managed to come out with burn injuries.
Other shop owners rushed them to the sub-divisional hospital at Nilagiri. All the three persons sustained around 30 per cent burn but were out of danger, the hospital sources said.
The two workers, who were injured, were identified as Naresh Singh and Rajesh Singh of Pundal village under Radhakishore panchayat in the district.
On being informed, Fire personnel along with a team from Nilagiri police station went to the spot and brought the fire under control. The police have launched an investigation to ascertain the cause of fire, said the IIC.
