Berhampur: Panic gripped locals after a tanker carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) overturned near on National Highway-16 near Khallikote in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Sunday.
While the driver of the tanker suffered injuries in the incident, a major disaster was averted after the tanker overturned all of a sudden.
According to reports, the tanker was proceeding from Vishakhapatnam to Khurda when it overturned on the highway, about 400 meters from the Khallikote police station.
The police closed the road and diverted traffic as a precautionary measure to avert any mishap that may happen in case a leakage occurs.
On being informed, fire services personnel along with necessary equipment rushed to the site. Officials of the LPG company also rushed to the spot.
The injured driver, identified as Manoj Kumar Yadav, has been admitted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Khallikote.
People living in nearby areas have panicked following the incident involving the LPG tanker. Local officials convinced them not get worried as all precautionary measures were being taken.
