Mumbai: The first phase of Lok Sabha election was conducted on Friday with impressive voter turnout in some states like Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
But there are six more phases to go, over the next six weeks. And hence, high-pitched campaigning continues throughout the country despite soaring mercury levels.
In an interesting development, a Shah Rukh Khan-lookalike person was seen campaigning for Congress candidate Praniti Shinde in Maharashtra’s Solapur constituency.
As a video of SRK doppleganger with a ponytail, waving from a vehicle with Congress banner and pictures of Rahul Gandhi and Praniti, went viral on social media, the BJP called it a Congress ‘scam’.
“After fake surveys, fake videos Congress brings out fake campaigners. This one looks like duplicate of @iamsrk !!!” wrote a user claiming to be from Modi ka Parivar, along with the video.
Watch the video shared on X:
“Imagine the lengths to which the party can go to fool people so brazenly and openly. Peddling fake surveys, making up fake anti-India narratives, using AI generated Deep Fakes of celebrities and now this. Now you know why this party is already blaming EVMs,” BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala wrote on X, tagging Election Commission of India and Shah Rukh Khan.
According to media reports, the man in question is Ibrahim Qadri, though there was no confirmation about the doppelganger’s identity.
Qadri has made his presence felt as Shah Rukh’s doppelganger and has a huge fan following on social media.
Born in Gujarat, Qadri came into prominence after Shah Rukh’s ‘Raees’ was released in 2017.
His popularity can be gauged from the fact that Qadri attends events where he delivers Shah Rukh’s dialogues, copies his signature, poses like him, and does his dance moves.
