Lucknow: A hotel in UP’s capital city will have to pay a heavy price after a massive fire led to the death of four people.
The city administration ordered that Hotel Levana be sealed and demolished.
Lucknow Divisional Commissioner Roshan Jacob, who is probing the fire incident, said that the hotel owners had violated norms by constructing the premises without having the building map approved, hence the building should be sealed and demolished.
Lucknow Development Authority had served notices to Hotel Levana over lack of adequate safety and security arrangements.
The fire broke out in the hotel in Lucknow’s Hazratganj area early on Monday, reportedly in the kitchen. Though the fire was confined to the kitchen, heavy smoke spread to other parts of the hotel, resulting in four fatalities.
ANI posted a video clip of the hotel fire on Twitter:
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath asked the divisional commissioner and police commissioner to launch an investigation soon after the incident.
A high-level committee — comprising the principal secretary (Home), principal secretary (Medical), and other senior officials – has also been set up to probe the fire.
