Ludhiana ACP Succumbs To Coronavirus, Day After Plasma Therapy Had Been Arranged For Him

Ludhiana: Anil Kohli, an assistant commissioner of police (ACP), succumbed to COVID-19 at the SPS hospital in Ludhiana on Saturday.

The 52-year old Kohli, who was ACP, North of Ludhiana city police, had tested positive for COVID-19 on April 13.

A frontline officer, Kohli had been working for 9-10 hours a day at Ludhiana’s busiest wholesale vegetable market, since curfew was imposed in Punjab to contain the spread of the virus.

He was admitted to the hospital on April 8 with fever and tested positive five days later.

The Punjab government had said in a statement on Friday that Kohli would be the first patient in the state to be treated with plasma therapy in a bid to save his life.

ADCP Sachin Gupta, nodal officer for COVID-19, said that a donor for ACP’s plasma therapy had been arranged, but Kohli passed away before the specialised treatment could start.

Though the source of infection is not 100 per cent clear, it is suspected that he got infected at the sabzi mandi.

SPS Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Rajiv Kundra said that the officer’s condition started deteriorating on Friday night. “He had a multiple organ failure which led to cardiac arrest,” he said.
