Chandigarh: The man who was killed in the blast at a court in Punjab’s Ludhiana has been identified and believed to be of the bomber and a former police officer, sources were quoted as saying by NDTV.
Sources said that the bomber’s body was identified as former cop Gagandeep Singh. He was dismissed from service in 2019 as a head constable and spent a couple of years in prison after his arrest in a drug-trafficking case. He got released in September.
The deceased’s SIM card and a wireless dongle helped cops identify him and the family to have confirmed that the body was of Singh, according to sources.
The turn of events bolstered Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi’s remark that there was no evidence of the involvement of Pakistani agencies or Khalistani groups in the blast, and instead have ties to the drugs case in which ex-minister Bikram Majithia has been named, NDTV reported.
“It is a possibility. The blast happened in Ludhiana when the hearing in the Majithia case was taking place in Mohali. There is a possibility of a link that needs to be probed,” Channi said. He also added that the six others injured in the blast are now out of danger.
