Balasore: Miscreants reportedly decamped with an antique idol of Maa Tarini, jewellery worth lakhs of rupees and all cash from the donation box of a temple at Kanpur village under Bhograi block of Balasore district late on Friday.
The matter came to light after the priest opened the temple this morning. “A local resident found the gate of temple broken around 5 am and informed me. I rushed here only to find that the idol, jewellery, and cash from the donation box were missing,” said Kamal Tripathy, the chief priest of the temple.
He added that items worth more than Rs 2 lakh were stolen.
Police have registered a case on basis of a complaint lodged by the priest and launched a probe.
