Berhampur: After successfully scaling Africa continent’s highest peak Mount Kilmanjaro, young mountaineer from Odisha Madhusmita Patra is back in Berhampur.
While Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated Madhusmita for scaling the 5,895 metre high peak, she was accorded a grand reception by her near and dear ones and family members on her arrival in Berhampur.
Congratulating Madhusmita in a twitter post for achieving the rare feat, Naveen wish her more such success and a bright future.
Soon after her return here on Saturday, Madhusmita said her goal now is to scale Mt Everest for which she will undergo necessary training. She also expressed her desire to scale other high mountain peaks in different continents in future.
It may be noted that Madhusmita, who hails from Ganjam district, reached the peak of Mt Kilimanjaro and hoisted India’s National Flag on the peak on February 13. She stayed there for a while, before returning to the base camp.
Madhusmita, daughter of a former air force officer Premanand Patra and Pushpanjali, works as a computer engineer with a private company in Chennai.
A trained mountaineer, she has underwent a professional course at the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) in Darjeeling. In the past, she has scaled Mount Renak, Chadar, and Kedarkant, sources said.
Madhusmita had left Berhampur on February 5. After trekking a long way reached the base camp of Mt Kilimanjaro on February 12. After taking some rest at the base camp, proceeded towards the peak along with her guide and reached there the next day.
