Bhopal: Tulsidas’ Ramcharitmanas will now be part of the undergraduate curriculum for engineering students of Madhya Pradesh. Also, engineering students would have to learn about Ramsetu — which many right-wingers consider an engineering feat.
Medical students have been spared of this, but they can pursue medical studies in Hindi in the state.
“We are going to form a committee at the earliest to ensure that medical education courses are prepared in Hindi as well. In the near future, we will start medical studies in Hindi too,” Madhya Pradesh Medical Education Minister Vishwas Sarang was quoted as saying by NDTV.
“Ramcharit Manas Ke Vyavharik Darshan” (Applied philosophy of Ramcharitmanas) has been added as an elective course for first-year BA students from 2021-22 academic session on the recommendation of the syllabus committee for higher education.
The course will have a 100-mark question paper and include topics like “Spirituality and religion in root sources of Indian culture”, â
Four ages in Vedas, Upanishads and Puransâ, âDifference between Ramayana and Shri Ramcharitmansâ and âIncarnation of divine existenceâ.
First-year students will have to learn a preface to Mahabharata by C Rajagopalchari in the foundation course for English. According to the order, the objective is to help students develop âleadership ability and humanistic attitude by focusing on various dimensions of personality development,â reported NDTV.
Apparently, to instil social and medical ethics in students, Proposals are also there to draft in the biographies of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh founder Dr KB Hedgewar, Bharatiya Jan Sangh chief Deen Dayal Upadhyaya and Dr BR Ambedkar among other leaders as part of the first-year foundation course in medicine.
According to Higher Education Minister Mohan Yadav, the alterations were meant to âbring our glorious past to the foreâ. The syllabus is being implemented âon recommendation of scholarsâ, the minister added and countered Congressâ allegations of âsaffronisation of educationâ.
âIt has been proved by a NASA study that Ramsetu was a man-made bridge built millions of years ago,â Yadav said.
