‘Maha Snana’ Performed At Puri Jagannath Temple After Employee Injures Finger

Puri: The ‘Maha Snana’ ritual was performed at Jagannath temple in Odisha’s Puri after a worker of the shrine injured his finger on Saturday.

According to sources, the wound led to bleeding following which the worker was shifted to a local hospital for first aid.

The incident took place near the sacred Kalahata Dwara of Jagannath temple. Soon after, the temple priests ordered Maha Snana ritual today afternoon.

During Maha Snana, the idols of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra are not bathed. Rather, the ritual is performed by pouring water on mirrors placed in front of the idols amid chanting of mantras.

Sources added that the temple administration halted public darshan at the 12th-century shrine during the ritual.
