Mumbai: The teaser of ‘Mahakali’ has been unveiled, giving fans a first look at Akshaye Khanna as Shukracharya, the guru of the Asuras.
The actor’s striking transformation has quickly caught attention online, with fans praising his casting and calling it “peak casting”, especially after his performance in ‘Dhurandhar’.
The teaser is packed with intense visuals, mythology and a dark voiceover, hinting at a battle between good and evil.
It opens with a newborn baby crying before being placed inside a temple.
Soon after, Akshaye’s voice is heard questioning the ideas of dharma and adharma.
His character, Shukracharya, narrates the story of the Samudra Manthan and questions why Vishnu gave the nectar of immortality, or Amrit, only to the Devas when both the Devas and Asuras had contributed equally.
He also questions why the Asuras were denied their claim to Indra’s throne and banished to the underworld, asking whether these actions truly represented dharma or adharma.
The teaser then takes a darker turn as Shukracharya declares that the Asuras will soon defeat their enemies and break free from oppression.
Akshaye is subsequently seen in a striking and intense avatar as Shukracharya.
In one of the most powerful moments, he orders, “Raktabeej! Manav jaati ka sarvanaash kardo.”
The dialogue hints at a major battle between the Asuras and humanity.
Towards the end, the teaser offers a glimpse of Sriya Reddy as Goddess Kali. She looks almost unrecognisable as she is seen feeding a newborn baby.
The teaser ends with the words “The End Begins”, followed by the film’s release date, January 8, 2027.
The final shot shows the newborn baby in the arms of Goddess Mahakali.
Soon after the teaser was released, fans took to the comments section to praise Akshaye’s casting and striking look.
“Mahakali Teaser Goosebumps,” one fan commented.
Another wrote, “Akshay Sir as Shukracharya Peak Casting After Dhurandhar.”
A third fan commented, “Akshay Khanna transformation and voice modulation. This looks good (Goosebumps).”
