Bhubaneswar: The first legal matter pertaining to Mahanadi in the New
Year came up on Friday as the division bench of Calcutta High Court
heard the writ petition filed by Chhattisgarh government against the
stay order of National Green Tribunal (NGT) on uncommissioned projects
in Chhattisgarh.
After hearing the matter, the bench came to a conclusion that as the
NGT does not fall under article 323A and 323 B, it should be taken
up by single bench but still, there is a doubt on the maintainability
of the writ petition. It will again come up on Tuesday so that final
assignment of the matter can be decided.
Meanwhile, Union Minister for Water Resources Nitin Gadkari wrote to
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik seeking mutual discussion between Odisha
and Chhattisgarh to settle the Mahanadi water sharing dispute.
