Maharashtra Leads In COVID-19 Cases; 43 In Mumbai’s Dharavi

Mumbai: Maharashtra is the worst-hit state in the country with the total number of COVID-19 cases touching 1,895.

With 113 of 134 new cases being reported from Mumbai on Sunday, the metro city has turned into a COVID-19 hotspot.

Dharavi, Asia’s biggest slum located in central Mumbai, reported 15 new cases, taking its tally to 43. Nine of these are contacts of one of the patients, who had died earlier. Four people have so far died inside the slum due to the virus.

Dharavi houses 8 lakh people in 2.25 square kilometres area.

Other cities such as Thane (12), Pune (5), Palghar (2), Raigad and Amravati (one each) has have also reported cases.

So far, 127 people have died because of the infection in Maharashtra.

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray recently decided to extend the lockdown to April 30.
