Mahua Moitra Defends Kharge, Recalls Amit Shah’s Remark On Rahul’s Grandmother

New Delhi: Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra Trinamool on Monday supported Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge over his remark on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and accused the BJP of having double standards on political comments, PTI reported

Moitra shared an old video of Union Home Minister Amit Shah saying that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s grandmother could not prevent the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), and contended that the ruling party and friendly media outlets had not objected when that comment was made.

The row was triggered on Sunday after Kharge, while speaking at a Patna event, replied to a person in the crowd who asserted that Modi would not go. “Modi ka baap bhi jayega, baap bhi jayega (Even Modi’s father would go),” the Congress chief said.

Moitra then posted a string of messages on X.

“Why only the father? Even the father’s father will go. Well said, Kharge ji. We assure you that we will fight this till the end,” she wrote.

In another post, she took a dig at the BJP’s poll slogan, saying, “BJP: Modi will come to power. India: Modi and his father will go.”

The Trinamool MP also uploaded the clip in which Shah is heard stating that Rahul Gandhi’s grandmother could not stop the CAA.

“The BJP and Godi media loved it. Today Kharge said Modi’s father will also go (and yes, Adani will go). Accept it, folks. What’s sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander,” Moitra said.

In a separate post, apparently directed at Shah, she remarked, “Go and steal some more votes and come back. You’ll remember.”
