New Delhi: Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra was appointed as the party’s district president of Krishnanagar (Nadia North) on Monday. Taking to X, Moitra thanked the party and Trinamool Congress Chief Mamata Banerjee for her new role and assured her that she would work in the best interest of her party and Krishnagar.
Moitra is being investigated for accepting bribes in exchange for asking questions in the parliament, was appointed as the party’s district president of Krishnanagar (Nadia North) on Monday. The Lok Sabha Ethics Panel that is probing TMC MP’s role in the case has sought the expulsion of Moitra. The committee on Thursday adopted a report on the case after two hearings.
Ethics Committee Chairman Vinod Sonkar told CNN-News 18, “Report is adopted. Some members tried to save her but the majority was in favour of adopting the report. Now the report is being sent to Lok Sabha Speaker.”
The TMC came out strongly in support of its party MP Moitra, with Trinamool general secretary Abhishek Banerjee claiming that whoever questioned the government was “harassed” by the BJP-led NDA dispensation at the Centre.
Expressing solidarity with Moitra, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) labelled the move as “vendetta politics,” accusing the BJP of attempting to stifle voices critical of the central government.
