Balasore: Several shops were turned into ashes and properties worth lakhs of rupees damaged as a market place in Odisha’s Balasore town caught fire on Thursday evening.
As per reports, the fire started from a hotel at Nua Bazaar in the town. As the fire fueled by dry furniture inside spread, the LPG cylinders exploded. The explosions were so loud that the locals were terrified.
While the locals were unable to control the fire, it spread to neighbouring shops and very soon almost the entire row of shops was engulfed by the inferno. A nursery adjacent to the Bazaar also caught fire and a cow and its calf were burnt alive, the sources said.
On being informed, the Fire Brigade rushed to the spot and started extinguishing the fire with the help of the locals. The fire fighting operation was going on till the report was filed. However, nobod has been injured in the incident.
