Balasore: In a daylight dacoity, a group of armed robbers allegedly looted more than Rs 30 lakh and a huge quantity of gold ornaments from a Union Bank branch at Chandaneswar in Odisha’s Balasore district on Wednesday.
The incident took place after around eight miscreants entered the bank posing as customers in the afternoon to commit the daring robbery, sources said.
Soon after entering the bank, the miscreants reportedly flashed pistols and locked the staff of the branch in a room.
As per preliminary reports, the gang members looted the cash and gold ornaments after terrorising those present in the bank at gun point before leaving.
After getting information, police personnel rushed to the spot. They rescued the bank staff by opening the locker room and launched an investigation.
Senior police officials from jaleswar and Chandaneswar reached the bank to monitor the investigation into the incident. It is suspected that the robbers fled towards West Bengal after committing the crime. Further details are awaited.
