Major Drug Trafficking Racket Busted In Odisha’s Bargarh; 6 Held

Bargarh: In a major success in the battle against illegal drug trafficking, police on Saturday arrested six persons and seized a large quantity of narcotic substances under the ongoing ‘Operation Prahar’ in Odisha’s Bargarh district.

The arrests were made following a specific information received by the Paikmal Police Station, a police official said.

Acting swiftly on the tip-off, the Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) and his team launched an operation and intercepted a white SUV near the Nishani Gudi Temple along the Biju Expressway, which connects Padampur and Paikmal. The vehicle was reportedly being escorted by two persons on a motorcycle and a scooter.

During search, police seized 2,598 Pentazocine injections, a restricted pharmaceutical drug often misused as a narcotic. Along with the contraband, police also recovered the SUV, motorcycle, scooter, and six mobile phones from the possession of the accused.

SDPO of Padampur Pandab Sabar described the arrest as a major success for the Bargarh police under ‘Operation Prahar. Preliminary interrogation suggests that the supply chain originates from Bhubaneswar and further investigation is underway, he said.

The accused persons have been identified as Umesh Sahoo (28) of Colonypada village, Madan Boria (35) of Kotapada village, Sanda Seth (27) of Malpada village, Husen of Colonypada village, Sadachandra Sahoo of Banmal village, and Harekrushna (35) of Temri village. All the accused are from Paikmal area in the district.
