Nabarangpur: A major fire broke out at a Community Health Centre (CHC) in Umerkote block of Odisha’s Nabarangpur district on Tuesday.
Sources said no injury to anyone has been reported in the fire mishap at the health centre located at Pujuriguda and all patients are safe. Soon after the fire was noticed, all the patients were safely evacuated.
While the blaze was reported to have erupted due to an electrical short circuit, the authorities are yet to ascertain the exact reason.
The fire was reportedly first noticed in the oxygen cylinder storage area of the health centre. Witnesses described hearing a loud explosion, potentially the sound of a cylinder rupturing. This prompted immediate action from healthcare staff, who quickly alerted the hospital supervisor.
As efforts by the hospital personnel to extinguish the blaze proved ineffective, the fire service was informed. A team of firefighters rushed to the site and controlled the blaze. The extent of the damage caused by the fire is yet to be assessed.
Authorities have initiated an investigation to confirm the cause of the fire and evaluate the safety measures in place at the health centre to prevent similar incidents in the future.
