Raurkela: A major fire broke out at a paint manufacturing unit in Kalunga Industrial Area near Raurkela in Odisha’s Sundaragada district on Tuesday.
While no one was reported to have been injured due to the fire, the incident caused extensive damage to the factory property and triggered panic in the area.
According to information, the fire erupted inside the factory premises all of a sudden and quickly spread across the unit. Thick smoke and towering flames were reportedly visible from a distance, raising concern among nearby residents and workers in the industrial area.
Sources said a large quantity of materials stored inside the factory was destroyed in the fire. The estimated value of the damage is believed to be worth several lakhs of rupees. However, the exact extent of the loss is yet to be officially assessed.
On being informed, fire service teams rushed to the site to extinguish the flame. Five fire tenders were pressed into service to control the blaze and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby industrial units.
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained and authorities are set to conduct an investigation into the incident.
