Berhampur: A major fire broke out at a car service centre in Berhampur city of Odisha’s Ganjam district on Saturday, reducing several vehicles to ashes.
Sources said the fire incident took place at the service centre located near the bus terminal at Haldiapadar on the outskirts of Berhampur in the morning.
The fire reportedly caused extensive damage to vehicles and other materials on the premises. The extent of damage would be assessed after the situation turns completely normal.
Officials said there was no report of loss of life or injury to anyone. Further investigation into the incident was underway.
After receiving information, fire services team rushed to the spot to control the blaze and prevent it from spreading further. Around ten fire tenders were reportedly pressed into service.
A robotic monitor was used to bring the blaze under control. Nearly ten firefighting teams worked to contain the flames amid concerns over the intensity of the fire.
According to information, the facility served as a service centre. All the new vehicles and those brought to the premises for servicing were completely damaged in the fire.
Besides the service centre, a nearby two-wheeler service centre also suffered damage to some extent in the fire.
While the exact cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained, an electric short circuit was suspected to have led to the mishap.
