Bhubaneswar: A major fire broke out at a cotton warehouse near Patrapada in Bhubaneswar on Monday morning, causing extensive damage to the stock and structure at the site.
According to preliminary information, thick smoke billowing out of the warehouse was first noticed at around 9 am by locals, who immediately alerted the Fire Service.
Multiple fire tenders rushed to the spot after receiving information and launched their operation to put out the blaze.
While the fire caused extensive damage to the warehouse and the stock inside, there was no report of injury to anyone in the incident.
Sources said the fire spread rapidly as the warehouse was stocked with highly inflammable cotton, making it difficult for firefighters to bring the fire under control.
More than ten firefighting teams have been deployed to douse the flames. Firefighters have been engaged in the operation for hours and are facing significant challenges due to the large quantity of cotton stored inside the warehouse.
While the exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, the extent of the damage will be assessed only after the fire is completely controlled, officials said.
