Major Revamp Work Of Cuttack Railway Station Nearing Completion

Cuttack: The century old Cuttack Railway Station is being refurbished. It is going through a major
re-development process. The exercise is aimed at enhancing the aesthetic appearance of the station and to give passengers an improved, comfortable and lasting experience, said Divisional Railway Manager of Khurda Road, Braj Mohan Agarwal. The redevelopment of Cuttack Railway station was sanctioned in 2018-19 at a cost of Rs 9.92 crore.

Work already executed:

1. Improvement of the facade of the station building and streamlining the traffic flow by widening the road in station circulating area.

2. Over 60 unauthorised shops/extensions of commercial plots removed towards the main entry of the station to make a 40 ft. wide approach road with side pathways and median with plants.

3. Large scale plantation along the station building and installation of water fountains. Konark Wheel near the main entry.

4. Fountains with coloured lights, high mast lights and chandeliers have been put up in the station complex.

5. An escalator has been commissioned at the second entry of the station for easy movement of passengers. Besides, three lifts have been installed on each platform. For free movement of passengers, a new foot over bridge was commissioned recently connecting all the platforms.

Work Under execution:

6. gallery commemorating the life and work of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose is being developed at the station in consultation with the Netaji Subhas Memorial Museum, Cuttack.

7. A GPS based digital clock will be installed for uniformity in timings and synchronized up to the seconds. This GPs based clock will be visible from a distance of 100 metres at least.

8. A decentralised, organic waste treatment plant will be installed. The waste will be manually segregated into biodegradable and non-biodegradable fractions.
