Make Raksha Bandhan A Melodious Affair With These Old Bolly Tracks

Bhubaneswar: Festivals in India are incomplete without music. In fact, there is a song for every ritual – either a mainstream Bollywood number or a collection of melodious folk ones.

Raksha Bandhan, the grand celebration of one of the most cherished relationships, brother-sister, has for long been associated with various mythological stories, making it quite clear how there must be quite a number of tracks defining sibling love.

While the list might go on, here are our favourite picks from the golden era of Indian cinema!

Phoolon Ka Taaron Ka – This song from ‘Hare Krishna Hare Rama’ has been all of our go to number when sisters would get annoyed. Starring Zeenat Aman and Devnanad as siblings, this movie also speaks about the relationship and various twists and turns that takes place in the brother-sisters’ lives.

Bhaiya Mere Rakhi Ke Bandhan Ko Nibhana – Haven’t we all sung this in our schools during assembly programmes? And, how this song came up in every other reality show when a girl tied Rakhi on a boy’s wrist. This song is pure nostalgia.

Behna Ne Bhai Ki Kalai Pe- ‘Pyaar Baandha Hai’, and is it not? A Rakhi is about love and the promise you seek for protection. This song from ‘Resham ki Dori’ explains the essence of Raksha Bandhan is a beautiful way!

Mere Bhaiya Mere Chanda – We give different names to our brothers, all with affection. However, when we have seen how younger siblings grow up, the feeling is rooted deep, thus, the song referring brother as ‘Chanda’, the moon, who is loved by one and all. This song from movie ‘Kaajal’ is sure to make you a little emotional.

Behna O Behna – Amitabh Bachchan singing this song for his sister in this 1976 movie ‘Adalat’ is so adorable. Someday, every elder brother will relate to the feeling this song portrays of how his sister, the joy of the family, gets married someday and has to leave the house.
