Jeypore: Jeypore Railway Station in Odisha’s Koraput district is all set to find a special place on the railways map of the country. The station will undergo a major makeover under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme which accords emphasis on modernisation of existing infrastructure.

This apart, the railway stations at Koraput, Damanjodi and Jagdalpur will also get a facelift, sources said.

“Jeypore Railway Station is one among the 16 railway stations under Vishakhapatnam Railway Division of the East Coast Railway which have been included under the Amrut Bharat Station Scheme. The station will be redeveloped with modern facilities for common passengers as well as for the differently abled people, women and elderly persons,” said Divisional Railway Manager Anup Satpathy on Wednesday.

He was taking stock of various ongoing development works during a visit to the railway station.

The DRM inspected existing facilities and held talks with officials to ensure proper execution of the infrastructure redevelopment.

He further informed that the railway stations of Koraput, Damanjodi and Jagdalpur will also get a facelift.

“The double-laning work of Kothavalasa-Kirandul (KK) line for 100-km stretch has been completed. As part of this project, a new building for Jeypore station will be set up. There was discussion with senior officials about setting up of new buildings in place of the goods sheds,” he said.

The DRM also added that development of new infrastructure will reduce the distance between the railway station and the NH-26 which will make communication easy for passengers.

“Initiatives are being taken to construct a foot-over bridge, footpaths, rest shed for labourers and new staff quarters at the railway station,” he added.

Under Amrut Bharat Station Scheme, Indian Railways is witnessing a major transformation to boost infrastructure and enhance the passenger experience and travelling comfort.

The Railway Ministry has identified 1,275 railway stations across the country including the border areas for redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
