Mayurbhanj: Just days ahead of President and Prime Minister visit, Rairangpur in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district witnessed an alleged abduction and sexually of a 13-year-old girl.
Three suspects, including a male friend of the survivor, have been detained for questioning.
According to sources, the incident took place when the survivor and her sister had gone towards a nearby ri
ver around 2 pm on Sunday. It is alleged that four perpetrators kidnapped the minor girl and took her to a nearby forested area. Following her disappearance, the family members launched a frantic search but were unable to locate her. The miscreants later abandoned the girl near her house in an unconscious state before fleeing the scene. She rushed her to sub-divisional hospital at Rairangpur, where she is currently undergoing treatment.
The minor narrated her ordeal to her family and the police after she regained consciousness. Thought it was initially suspected to be a case of gangrape, Mayurbhanj SP Varun Guntupalli said the girl was subjected to severe sexual assault. He added that the male friend orchestrated the assault, the other two detained individuals aided and abetted the crime.
While police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Additional Superintendent of Police (SP) in Rairangpur Jadunath Jena visited the crime spot to investigate the matter.
