Male Friend, Hosp Security Guard Among 6 Detained For ‘Gangrape’ Of 17-Yr-Old Girl In Odisha


Bhubaneswar: Six individuals, including a security guard posted at Khurda district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Odisha, have been detained for the alleged gang-rape of a 17-year-old gir.

The girl, a native of Baghamari and a Plus II first year student, was allegedly kidnapped by her male friend and his four associates on November 18 while she was on her way to college and later and gang-raped. Her parents lodged a missing complaint in Baghamari police station a day later. She was later found at the hospital in

a critical condition on November 20.

According to police sources, the security guard is being questioned as the girl had contacted him over the phone on the day of the alleged incident. The male friend with whom she had reportedly come in contact through social media is also being interrogated. He is suspected to have orchestrated the entire crime.

The survivor, in her complaint, said that she was kidnapped in a car near Khurda New Bus Stand on November 18, made unconscious with a handkerchief soaked in chemicals, and then gang-raped. The accused allegedly abandoned her at Khurda DHH two days later. She was shifted to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar on November 21 as her condition worsened.

While multiple teams have been formed to examine the CCTV footage and call records of the suspects, to record the survivor’s statement, two women DSP officers have been entrusted with the investigation, said Khurda SP Vivekanand Sharma.

While the girl was seen strolling near the new bus stand in one of the CCTV footage, police are yet to trace the car in which she was allegedly kidnapped, the sources added.
