Mallya Loses Leave To Appeal Against Extradition In UK Supreme Court

London: Vijay Mallya suffered a major setback on Thursday as he lost his application seeking leave to appeal in the UK Supreme Court.

The UK Home Office is now expected to formally certify the court order for Mallya to be extradited to India within 28 days.

Mallya, who owned the now-defunct Kingfisher Airlines, is accused of alleged fraud and money laundering amounting to around Rs 9,000 crore. He lost an appeal against an extradition order to India in the London High Court last month and thereafter filed an appeal in the UK Supreme Court, which was heard on Thursday.

The UK Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said the 64-year-old businessman’s appeal to certify a point of law was rejected on all three counts — hearing oral submissions, granting a certificate on the questions as drafted, and granting permission to appeal to the Supreme Court.

Earlier on Thursday, reiterated his plea to the Indian government to accept his offer to repay loans owed to Indian PSU banks and close the case.

“Please take my money unconditionally and close,” he had tweeted.
