Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday dared BJP to arrest her after describing them as a “garbage of lies” and the “biggest curse of the nation”, asserting that she will ensure Trinamool Congress (TMC) victory in elections even from jail.
West Bengal Assembly polls are due in April-May 2021.
“The BJP is not a political party but garbage of lies. Whenever election arrives, they bring up the issue of Narada (sting operation) and Saradha (scam) to intimidate TMC leaders.
“But let me tell them very clearly, I am not afraid of the BJP or its agencies. If they have the guts, they can arrest me and put me behind the bars. I will fight elections from jail and ensure victory of the TMC,” Banerjee said at a public rally.
Drawing a comparison with Bihar, the West Bengal CM said that despite RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav being put behind bars, he has ensured his party’s good performance.
“The victory of the BJP (in Bihar) is through manipulation and not through popular mandate,” she said.
The TMC has been in power in West Bengal since 2011. The BJP is going all out to oust them, with the top leaders of the party like Amit Shah and JP Nadda having already started to visit the state and spelling out their target in no uncertain terms.
