Mamata Banerjee Is Lying, We Were Offered Money: Mother Of Murdered Kolkata Doc

Kolkata: The mother of the brutally raped and murdered junior doctor on Monday accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of lying about offering the family monetary compensation.

A few hours ago, Mamata dismissed allegations that Kolkata Police personnel tried to ‘bribe’ the parents of the postgraduate trainee doctor as ‘slander’ against her government.

“This is nothing but slander… I had told deceased doctor’s parents that if they wanted to do something in their daughter’s memory, our government is with them,” Mamata said.

In response, the victim’s mother slammed Mamata.

“The chief minister is lying. She said that you will get the compensation, and you can build something in memory of your daughter. I had said then that when my daughter gets justice, I will come to your office and take the compensation,” the mother said.

She also alleged that Banerjee was trying to “strangle” the widespread apolotical protests demanding justice for the trainee doctor, whose semi-naked body was found at RG Kar Hospital on August 9.

Mamata called for an end to protests by the public and doctors, and urged them to return to festivities of Durga Puja, which is a month away.

The victim’s mother described Mamata’s appeal to the people as ‘inhuman’.

“It seems inhuman to me because I am the mother of a girl. I have lost a child, so I feel inhuman. If people from all over the country want to return for the (Durga Puja) festival, they can,” the bereaved mother said.

“Durga Puja was celebrated in my home too. My daughter used to do it. But now darkness has engulfed our lives. How can I tell people to celebrate the festival during this time,” she added.

In a telling remark, she asked the CM: “If such an incident had happened in her family, would she have said that?”
