Bhubaneswar: The three-member women panel of the BJP which met the parents of Mamita Meher have reiterated the party’s demand for the resignation of Minister of State (Home), Dibyashankar Mishra on moral grounds.

The BJP team comprising party’s Mahila Morcha National President Vanathi Srinivasan, Lok Sabha member from Haryana Sunita Duggal and West Bengal MLA Sreerupa Mitra Chaudhury met Mamita’s parents and Balangir SP on Friday for ground assessment of facts in the murder case.

Addressing mediapersons on Saturday Srinivasan said the team is on two-day visit on the direction of BJP national president JP Nadda. “We will report to him about the details of the case,” she said.

After an interaction with locals, public representatives and police, the team learnt that it was a brutal murder. “We were also informed that Govind Sahu, the key accused in the murder case, had visited Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s residence many a times with the Minister  of State for Home,” she said.

Joining the dots in their findings, Shrinivasan said “The Assembly constituency is represented by Dibyashankar Mishra. Accused Govind Sahu is known to be a close aide of the Minister who himself had visited the school many times. The constituency where the crime took place is represented by the MoS (Home). Sahu is known as the Minister’s representative in the area. Not just political parties, even locals are of the opinion that there is a powerful person behind this case.”

Odisha BJP has been staging protests seeking justice for Mamita for the last 10 days. “The MoS Home should step down from his the Ministry on moral grounds in view of the mistrust generated around his conduct,” she said.

The Minister finally spoke on Friday and pleaded not guilty. “We too urge him by the name of Lord Jagannath to step down from his position on moral grounds,” added Srinivasan.

However, BJD refuted the allegations while accusing the Opposition of politicising the issue. Party leader Pratap Deb said, “CM Naveen always takes immediate action against which allegations are levelled. He had taken such steps in the past & will also take such action in the future.”
